Grocery Shopping Trip for the Week of 2/22/09

This week I went to Albertson's, Fred Meyer and Safeway (trip to Safeway not pictured).

Total of the above: $22.55

I will list the highlights, but not all because I don't want to type it all out!:)
28 cans of Progresso soup
14 cans of Pillsbury biscuits for $0.25 total (any recipes for me!?)
5 cans of del monte chopped no salt tomatoes (1 was free!)
2 liter Dr. Pepper (free!)
whole wheat hamburger buns for sloppy joes marked down to $0.79
asparagus $0.98/lb

My safeway trip included a huge package of ground beef for $1.49/lb which has already made lentil/rice/& beef meatballs (tasty!) and will make sloppy joes and hamburger gravy later this week with some to spare for the freezer. I also got red grapes for $0.88/lb there, a tomato, and salad in a bag (for $1.00). Total about $11.

Grand total about $34 this week. See my menu plan for this and pantry/freezer food here.

Great deal on the biscuits! I have a (kid-friendly) recipe that you might enjoy! Individual Pizza Cups:
Flatten 1 biscuit per muffin pan cup. Fill each cup with pre-cooked hamburger meat and a small amount of tomato sauce. Top with favorite pizza toppings. Bake as can directs! Easy and quick (and my kids inhale them)!

Don't forget the old standby Monkey Bread: Use 2 tubes of biscuits. Cut each biscuit into 4, dip biscuit pieces into melted butter and then cinnamon and sugar. Put into loaf pan or tube pan or bundt pan. Pour remaining butter and sugar mix over biscuits (if you have any left). Bake 400 for 35 minutes or until done. Invert and eat.

Great Job!
Have you listed the recipe yet for the lentil, rice and beef meatballs? I am always looking for new recipes for lentils.
Thanks!

Thanks for the tips My home of 5 and Kristen! I will try those!

Keevy Family-I actually didn't use a recipe, but rather added the leftover lentil/rice casserole (like the one you make) which was maybe 1 1/2-2 cups to a regular baked meatball recipe. I think there was 2 lbs ground beef, 2 eggs, spices and some crushed flake cereal in mine:)

For your biscuits...we have something that we love that we call Humpty Dumpty (I have no idea where that came from, but my family has been calling it that for years!) Take 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup, 1 can of tuna, and about 1/2 c. milk. Stir together over medium heat. Serve as a gravy over the biscuits. Super easy and yummy!

Crock pot chicken and dumplings: whatever type of chicken you like, 2 cans of creamed soup (chicken, celery or mushroom), cut biscuits into quarters, add during last 45 minutes or so of cooking time. Add more liquid if needed, water or chicken broth both OK. Easy and delicious. Enjoy your blog!

Thanks for the great ideas everyone! I am going to try a variation on the Humpty Dumpty idea from Saving Some Green tonight since our company can't come until tomorrow! So many great ideas:)
