My precious: the bread machine

A couple weeks ago I got a bread machine at a garage sale. Risky business, but it was $8 and I knew the lady selling it a little bit. The first 5 loaves were perfect and then poof, a loaf crashed. It was like a huge cracker/hockey puck. I thought it was done for, but I am trying another loaf as we speak and it looks like its working again! No clue what happened, but I hope it continues to give me more good loaves.

Daniel was resistant to the idea of getting one for a long time, but I bought it with birthday money and now that he's getting fresh bread every other day he's changed his mind:)

Do you use a bread machine? Does it seem worth the space it takes up for the convenience/$ savings it gives back?

I love my bread machine, but I never bake in it. I used it to make the dough and it's wonderful. I make pizza dough, calzone dough, dinner roll dough - stuff like that. I'm never really crazy about what actually bakes in it. That's just me. :)

I love my bread machine too! But like Sheila, I only use it to knead my dough. I don't much like the hole it leaves in my loaf.

I also love my bread machine but I too just make the dough for breads, pizza crust etc. I don't enjoy the hard crust of the bread machine bread and its ALMOST as easy just to plop it in a pan and make. :)

I agree with the other girls--dough only. I find I spend roughly $1.50/loaf, which for my area is only a little more expensive than the cheapest bread. Of course, the quality is much better.

Sheila, Jenni, Jaime and Michelle- How do you know when to take the dough out if you are going to just use it to knead etc.? I would like to make cinnamon rolls and regular rolls sometime, but don't want to mess up the dough by taking it out the wrong time!

My bread maker is one of the most used kitchen tools ever! I absolutely love it and it is definately worth the space/cost.

Mine has a dough setting which I use as I agree with the other ladies that baking it in the oven is the best way to go. I also use mine for pizza crusts, cinnamon roll dough etc... I wish I would have bought one years ago!
